The Opening Ceremony of the Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022 on 5 November 2022 was an explosion of colour, energy and vibrancy as a bold declaration that the Games were officially open.

Each national team proudly marched with pride in their steps, through the heart of Brisbane from Reddacliff Place, through Queen Street Mall to King George square to enter the stunning halls of Brisbane’s iconic Brisbane City Hall for the official ceremony.

Heartfelt speeches were given by Ms Jessica Pugh, Member for Mount Ommaney and representing the Queensland Premier, Councillor Angela Owen, Calamvale Ward and representing the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Duane Kale ONZM, Vice President of the International Paralympic Committee, Helen Croxford, President of the Sport Inclusion Australia Board and Chair of the OA Games 2022 Organising Committee, Mr Barry Holman Virtus Secretary General, Virtus Asia President Patrick Chan and Virtus Oceania President Robyn Smith OAM.

The entire evening was line-up of showstopping, heart-thumping and awing performances that paid tribute to ethos of the Games and each athlete that sat in the room – it set the tone for the incredible and inspiring week to come. A huge thank you for the incredible talent that banded together to celebrate our heroes, our athletes: Matt Cocking and Red Thunder Drumline from St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace, Brisbane Excelsior Band, Town Crier Mike McHutchinson, Shannon Ruska, Emma Tomlinson, D.L.D.C.,The Tertiary Place Inc., Cindy Leigh Boske, Borderline Australia (feat.
